Ed, I have some general questions in relation to your book "The Past is a Future Country" which I've just read.
1. Wouldn't there have been a period after the industrial revolution in which it was adaptive to be more liberal? If mal-adaptive liberalism is caused by mutational load why did mutation proceed in the direction of liberalism rather than conservatism?
2. I am still a bit unclear as to why liberals have lower fertility. Is it correct to say that liberals have a higher mutational load that makes them less able to resist the "evolutionary mismatch" we find ourselves in, especially mal-adaptive ideas?
If this is the case then was there a specific generation that was born that was so high in mutational load such that they were too-liberal to survive even in an individually selected (easy) ecology?
