On 15th December, the new head of MI6 gave a speech in which she attempted to prepare Britain for going to war with Russia; for the idea that Britain’s young men may have to join up and potentially die. The Chief of the Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, was even more direct, in a speech at around the same time: “If our country falters because it is not prepared to accept – let’s be honest – to lose its children, to suffer economically because defence production will take precedence, then we are at risk.” Surely, Sir Richard could see the problem with the co-ordinated speech from MI6.
