I used to have a soft spot for the Conservative former Business Secretary Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg. I admired the way that this Eton-educated politician didn’t try to play down the fact that he was upper class but, rather, accepted it, regardless of the mockery his old-fashionedcountry squire persona provoked. As a rule, I have also found that he is skilled at presenting reasoned arguments, but this has fallen apart when it comes to his two recent videos which insist that anyone can become English and even that the essence of Englishness is wearing a heavy suit at the height of a hot summer.
