When I heard about the death of former Conservative Minister Ann Widdecombe, from a friend of her friend last Thursday, and even when I heard that she had been murdered, I assumed it would just be another shot fired in our low-level civil war. I didn’t realise that the murder of the former Shadow Home Secretary cum celebrity would be a further step in the direction of actual civil war, but so it has turned out.
