Kevin DeAnna is the most influential Alt-Right thinker you’ve never heard of—but whose work you’ve probably read. Writing under the pen names “Gregory Hood” and “James Kirkpatrick”, DeAnna has been a prolific contributor to Counter-Currents, V-dare, AmRen, Radix and others. In addition to his theoretical contributions, DeAnna was also a pioneer of modern pro-white activism through his directorship of Youth For Western Civilization, which served as a lighthouse for nationalists in the early 2000s when everyone else was too afraid to take the lead.

When I did A-Level English Literature (aged 16 to 18), one of our two drama texts was Volpone by Ben Jonson. It is, in essence, about a psychopath who cons other people, in Venice where it is set, out of their money. However, we, the audience, take a certain delight in Volpone managing to do this because all of his victims are revoltingly avaricious. Volponedisplays traits which we are evolved to admire – wit, cunning, fearlessness, intelligence, charisma – and we admire them so much that we are able to ignore the fact that what he is doing is wrong. In addition, he is only mistreating bad people anyway and, further, we are privy to Volpone’s schemes; in a sense we are complicit, so we wish him to succeed.

You know Curtis Yarvin, aka Mencius Moldbug. Yarvin is a key intellectual founder of the "Dark Enlightenment" (neoreactionary) movement, which critiques liberal democracy and advocates replacing modern administrative states with centralized, corporate-style monarchies. I found him at this year’s ARC conference and asked him his thoughts.

When Sir John Glubb wrote his seminal work The Fate of Empires in 1978, he found himself astonished by the extent of the parallels between the winter of Greek, Roman and Islamic civilization and what was happening before his very eyes in the West of the time: lack of traditional religiosity, pseudo-religious cults, the waning of aristocratic rule, the collapse of sexual taboos, the liberation of females from patriarchal constraints, tolerance and even acceptance of homosexuality, the collapse of martial values, the failure of the higher classes to have children, and tolerance of mass immigration. However, one area that he didn’t explore was the percentage of the populace that were allowed to be idle; to be parasitic off of the state. Recently reported UK data has given us a shocking insight into this completely unsustainable situation; a situation which will bankrupt the country and lead to social chaos when the country can no longer afford it.

Daily Telegraph journalist Tim Stanley has provoked the ire of the “based” right by proclaiming that there can be no reversal of mass immigration and the leadership of Nigerian anchor baby Kemi Badenoch – whose birth-right citizenship derives from a law that was abolished a year after her birth and who didn’t live in England until she was 16 – is wonderful because it reflects modern Britain and implies that this foreigner has fallen in love with Britishness. Stanley correctly notes that Badenoch’s position possibly allows her to perceive Britain’s problems with greater clarity precisely because she is an outsider. But, for me, Stanley raises a more salient question, which I’ve also looked at in a video: Why do we have so many converts in public life?
